Gum Mastic

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A natural resin which comes out either naturally or from wounds in the “Pistacia Lentiscus” which grows in the Greek isle of Chios. Gum Mastic occurs as rounded tears of transparent, glossy, light yellow colour; it softens around 80°C and melts between 105°C and 120°C. It is insoluble in water and soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, turpentine oil and partially in alcohol. Owing to its properties of transparency and brightness it is commonly used as a picture varnish.
