Funori is a natural polysaccharide extracted from red algae, in use in Japan for a few centuries, and today mainly used as a consolidating agent for weakened paper and depolymerized canvas, or as a fixative for pictorial layers with a tendency to dust. Its characteristic of minimal chromatic impact is highly appreciated, with an opaque final effect. While Funori is normally marketed as dry seaweed, C.T.S. it has selected a particular type, which looks like a very fine yellowish powder, and is characterized by a higher polysaccharide content than dried seaweed.
