Product description:
Barium hydrate octahydrate is widely used as a consolidant for plasters and wall paintings. Barium hydroxide reacts with carbon dioxide to form barium carbonate, a salt almost insoluble in water, which provides a consolidation effect. It also reacts with calcium sulfate (CaSO₄), often present as efflorescence in frescoes, to form barium sulfate (BaSO₄), a highly insoluble salt.
